A 7-day Kilimanjaro climb on the Shira route – one of the two longer Kilimanjaro climb routes that start on the western side.

Drive from Arusha / Moshi to Londorossi Gate, register with the Kilimanjaro National Park, and then drive to Morrum Barrier-where the hike begins. From the Morrum Barrier, trek through the heather and moorland to Shira Camp 1(3500m).

After breakfast, enjoy an easy trek with the goal of acclimatization; trek to Shira Cathedral-a massive rock surrounded by steep spires and pinnacles. From Shira Cathedral, climb to Shira Camp 2 (3840m) and enjoy an early lunch.

After breakfast, trek southeast towards the Lava Tower(4630m). Upon arrival at the Lava Tower, enjoy a picnic lunch and then descend to the Barranco valley to Barranco Camp(3960m). The ascent to Lava Tower, followed by the descent to Barranco Camp, helps hikers acclimatize to altitude changes.

After breakfast, you will climb the Barranco Wall – a steep rock face standing at approximately 260m. From the top of the Barranco wall, trek through the Karanga valley towards Karanga Camp(4035m). In the afternoon, arrive at Karanga Camp ready for lunch. Spend the rest of the day in relaxation

On this day, trek on a trail that goes through an alpine desert until reaching Barafu Camp(4640m) -arrive at Barafu Camp around lunchtime. Enjoy your lunch, and then spend the rest of the day relaxing in preparation for that night – trek to Uhuru Peak.
Enjoy an early dinner and then get some rest because you will wake up around midnight to commence the last ascent towards Uhuru Peak – the summit of Kilimanjaro.

Distance: ~ 4.5 km ascent and 11 km descent
Time: 6-8 hours to the summit and then 5-8 hours descent to Mweka Camp

Wake up around midnight, enjoy a light snack, and then begin your trek from Barafu Camp to the summit of Mt.Kilimanjaro – climb for about 5-7 hours to reach Stella Point(5739m) on the crater rim. If the weather is good, enjoy a breathtaking sunrise before proceeding on a snow-covered trail to Uhuru Peak(5895m)- the highest point in Africa.
Once at the peak, savor the moment, and take as many photos as possible can before descending to Barafu Camp. Upon arrival at Barafu camp, enjoy a warm meal, and rest for some time before descending to Mweka Camp(3100m).

After breakfast, descend through the rainforests en route to Mweka Gate(1980m). Meet your driver and drive to your hotel in Arusha / Moshi for a day of relaxation.
