Investing in the right gear enhances your chance of reaching the peak of Kilimanjaro. Below is a list of essential items you should acquire before attempting to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. 

Apart from clothing and personal care supplies, you don’t have to buy any mountain gear; you can rent quality mountain gear at affordable rates in Tanzania. 

Gear or equipment that you can rent: 

  • Walking poles
  • Headlamps
  • Sleeping bag
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof trousers
  • Sleeping bag (rated minus 10 degrees centigrade or lower)
  • Inflatable mattress

Gear, equipment, and essentials that you need to buy or pack

Baggage
  • Large Rucksack or Holdall (70-90 Litres)
  • Daysack (for carrying valuables and essentials such as creams and cameras)
  • Waterproof rucksack liners
Clothing
  • T-shirts or vests (sweat-wicking)
  • Mittens
  • Insulated down jacket
  • Lightweight walking trousers – preferably tracksuit bottoms (avoid jeans or heavy cotton)
